Solar Photovoltaic Technology Basics

Goal

This Course is designed to help candidates understand all the various technical knowledge that lies behinds the unfolding of Solar Photovoltaic Energy Systems ranging from Solar Cell Technology, Preliminary Design basics, System design to Electrical Design.

Lesson Objectives

  1. Candidates should understand that a lot of technological know-how lies behind the making of Solar Panels and all the Components that make these generate Electrical Energy.
  2. Should know about Solar Cell Technology, different types of Solar Cells and how Solar Panels are made from these.
  3. Solar Photovoltaic Systems Design Basics

Use a Standalone PV system as an example of how to the plan the various consideration like Calculation of:
Energy Demand, Inverter/ Converter) Rating, Charge Controller Sizing, Daily Energy Supplied to Inverter, System Voltage. Others Consideration should include:

  • Finding the Total Load
  • Sizing of the Batteries,
  • Sizing of the PV Array,
  • Sizing of the Cable
  • Find the Rating and Size of Inverter
  • Find the Size, Rating & Number of Batteries
  • Find The Rating and Size of Solar Charge Controller
