2. How to install the roof array
3. How to install cabling, inverter and AC supply
4. Load Sharing
5. Schedule of inspections
6. PV array tests
7. Commission the system including; electrical installation certs, schedule of test results, Handover system

Module 2; PV MED 204: COMPLETE SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEM INSTALLATION
The Goal of this course to enable Candidates know that designing a solar PV system requires a
systematic approach. Here we shall use a Standalone Rooftop Solar Energy System to follow the
sequence of events needed to be followed to produce a fully functioning Complete Solar Energy
System.

OBJECTIVES
A. Typical Steps to follow in Designing a Bespoke Stand-Alone PV System
1. Carryout a Desktop Survey by Identifying the premises on aerial mapping software.
2. Conduct an Energy Audit to Establish Power Requirements
3. This requires visiting the client to carry out an energy audit and establish Power
requirement.
4. Evaluation of the Site will also be carried out during the visit.
5. Develop the Initial System Concept
6. Determine the PV Array sizing and sizing other Solar Components in the system being
designed
7. Evaluate Electrical Design Basics: Cabling and Battery etc Requirements
8. Select the best components for Procurement
9. Review the design.
10. Consider Solar Energy Financials:
11. Consider Insurance Policy
12. Signing Agreement
13. Carryout Procurement of Components
14. Carrying Out Installation
15. Commissioning
16. Maintenance & Repairs.

Module 3; PV MED 205 (SOLAR SYSTEM MONITORING, MAINTENANCE, TROUBLE SHOOTING & REPAIRS)

GOAL
Solar Energy Systems are built to last for many years (at least twenty-five years). For a system like
this to last for these many years, great consideration and effort must be put towards its
maintenance. And there cannot be effective maintenance without adequate monitoring.

Along the way there will be need to repair or exchange some of its old components which may have
passed their Sell-by Date, hence comes in the necessity to know how to carry out effective Trouble
Shooting.

Effective maintenance of solar PV systems is best performed by skilled installers or service specialists
who are familiar with various Solar components of Solar Energy Systems and Safety measures

Usually, these are Solar Service companies who can handle the whole spectrum of Solar PV
maintenance and repairs.

The main goal of this is to help Installers and Would Installers learn how carryout effective
monitoring, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of any system/s under their watch. We shall
use shall two different Systems: A Grid Tied Roof Top and a Distributed Energy System as Study cases
in this course.

OBJECTIVES
1. Using Roof Top and Distributed Energy Systems as examples, candidates should
2. know how effective monitoring of Solar PV systems can be carried out.
3. Know the various maintenance options necessary for adequate functioning of these systems
4. Be able to carry out effective Trouble shooting on a Solar PV system
5. Carry out repairs on Solar PV whenever necessary.

Module 4; PV MED 206: ELECTRICAL AND BUILDING REGULATIONS, GETTING PERMITS & INSPECTION DONE ON THE SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEMS

GOAL
This course will review the Electrical Regulations and Building Regulations in Nigeria. It will look at
the processes involved in getting permits for building Solar systems and the follow up Inspection of
the Solar energy systems built in Nigeria. Our aim here is to let all Solar Engineers /Project Managers
practice safe installation and be aware of all the legal aspects of building Solar Energy Systems in
Nigeria or anywhere in the world.

Learning objectives
Learn the Electrical Regulation in Nigeria and all Electric Standards as they relate to different Solar
Energy Systems Packages in Nigeria i.e., from Residential Solar Roof Top Installation, Commercial
Systems, Distributed Energy System, Utility Scale Grid Tied System, Solar Street Light, Building
Integrated Photovoltaic Systems, Carport etc.

Know all the necessary Permits needed for building Solar Energy Systems in Nigeria and how to get
them.

Understand the processes involved in carrying out Inspection of Solar Systems built by the
enforcement agents in Nigeria.

It is important to remember that each system is unique in its size and structure, therefore it is
important to know that application of National Electric Codes to a photovoltaic array will differ from
one system to another. In reviewing a permit, the enforcing agency applies state and local
construction code requirements, as well as additional local requirements that apply to solar energy
installations in that country. In many cases, the local agency must interpret how state requirements
apply to certain buildings.

Module 6; PV GEN 200 HEALTH & SAFETY IN SOLAR INSTALLATION
GOALS

The course is designed to help candidate understand the Challenges that may be associated with
different Installation Packages and learn how to avoid/mitigate them.

LESSON OBJECTIVES
1. Short Introduction to Different Solar Installation Packages
2. Evaluate the specific work situation for Different Solar Installation Installation Packages
3. Evaluate and identify potential safety hazards and injuries associated with different Solar
Installation Packages.
4. Have a general jobsite safe practice
5. Develop a company policy personal protective equipment policy.
6. Develop procedures for Working with Different Installation Packages
7. Develop procedures for using power tools and extension cords
8. Identify and Develop a Company wide policy toward Safety Signs,
9. Develop a Company Risk Assessment Policy,

A Solar Energy System is a renewable energy generating system that collects photovoltaic energy
from the sun and converts it into usable electricity. Often found as roof-top PV arrays, these systems
can range in size and are able to power different types of properties such as residential,
commercial, and utility-scale zones.

There are many types of Installation Packages, ranging from Roof Top systems, Commercial System,
Distributed Solar Energy Systems, Utility Solar Farm , Building Integrated Photovoltaic, Carport to
Solar Street Light.

Photovoltaic systems can be used in multiple applications: standard arrays such as roof-top or
ground mount serve to generate energy for a residence or building, while other non-traditional
systems can be utilized to power other objects or function (such as space satellites, hand-held
calculators or vehicles).

The course is designed to help candidate understand the Challenges that may be associated with
each of these different Installation
